Sisterhood

What is the sisterhood?

For over 25 years, The Chevra Sisterhood, with Sally Raicek at the helm, has brought together Jewish women of all ages. The goal was to create a warm community at The Chevra, and to support many fund-raising events, including speakers, book reviews, cultural enrichment as well as holiday programs. These events would benefit and enrich Jewish life within the synagogue. Holiday programs include Succoth, Chanukah, Purim, and Mother’s Day, amongst others.

Where does my money go?

The annual commitment to Sisterhood goes to fund our social programs, special projects, and to support our Synagogue. This year Sisterhood has generously pledged to The Ukraine Fund at The Chevra.

How can I participate?

Our activities and events this year are likely to be a mix of in-person and virtual, as the impact of COVID continues to evolve.

We look forward to the start of the Jewish New Year 5783 when we will begin to hold meetings to plan our Sisterhood activities.

If you would like to join Sisterhood, please contact the Chevra office at 514-482-3366.

The Creative Social Centre

Our senior social center, the Creative Social Center, is a not-for-profit, volunteer based, non- denominational, community organization. Its purpose is to provide creative and social activities that promote education, physical health and decreased isolation to members in our community while providing a safe and welcoming environment. Membership fees, course fees and food costs are kept as low as possible so that all activities are accessible to everyone. No one is refused because of inability to pay. The volunteer-run dining room is one of the ways that helps to fund our activities, as well as promote a caring & nurturing environment.

The center offers various courses of interest, holiday parties, and special outings.

This year the Creative is celebrating its 30th anniversary and looks forward to an amazing future in the community. For more information, please contact Susie, our director at 514-488-0907, or email cscmtl@gmail.com

Chevra Chesed Committee

The Chevra’s Chesed Committee’s mandate is kindness, and we fulfil this mandate by helping to look after those members in our community who are going through challenging times. Members of the committee make visits, telephone calls, send meals, baskets, flowers, cards etc. to let people know that we are here to help.
